Reformat Wd Easy Store For Mac

WD easystore is an external hard drive that makes it easy to back up your photos, videos, and files. If you have already used the hard drive on any other PC, reformatting will erase all the data that is stored on it. So, before you format an external hard drive on your Mac, don’t forget to get a backup of your data. Preparing The Hard Drive

  • First, connect the WD easystore hard drive to your Mac computer.
  • Now, the hard drive’s icon will appear on your Mac’s desktop.
  • If you don’t see the icon, check Finder Preferences on your Mac. To do the same, execute the below steps.
  • Go to the Dock and click Finder or select the Finder tab at the window's top-left corner.
  • Select Preferences from the drop-down list.
  • Now, the Finder Preferences dialog box will appear in the window.
  • Click on the General tab.
  • Make a tick mark on the External disks checkbox below Show these items on the desktop

  • Now, the hard drive will show up on your Mac.
  • In the Finder Preferences dialog box, click Sidebar and select the External disks checkbox from the list.

Reformatting Your Wd Drive For Mac

  • First, connect the WD easystore external hard drive to your Mac computer.
  • Open the Finder window and then select the Applications category from the left menu panel on the screen.
  • Click on the Utilities option from the list. Now, choose the Disk Utility option.
  • Click on the View button at the top-left corner of the window.
  • Pick the Show All Devices option.

  • Select your drive from the left menu panel on the screen.
  • Next, click Erase at the top of the window.

  • Select the Format field and choose one of the following options from the drop-down list.
  • Mac OS Extended (Journaled): This formatting option is default and compatible with all Mac computers.
  • APFS (Apple File System): This new file system is available for Macs with High Sierra and is the default formatting option for that version of macOS.
  • ExFAT: This formatting option has no storage limit and is compatible with both Windows and Mac. So, choose this format if you want the external hard drive to work on both Operating Systems.
  • MS-DOS (FAT): This also works on both Windows and Mac. But, you can store data smaller than 4GB.
  • Next, click the Scheme field and select the GUID Partition Map option from the drop-down list.
  • Once you’ve provided all the details, just click on the Erase button.
  • It takes some time to create the partition and set up the drive on Disk Utility.
  • When this process is completed, click the Done button.
  • Now, the hard drive is ready to use on your Mac computer.
